Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program For Public Defenders & Prosecutors - Update

An Omnibus appropriations bill was agreed to by the House – Senate Conference Committee last night and the Senate’s $10 million for funding the John R. Justice Prosecutors and Defenders Incentive Act was retained in the bill.
It is necessary that both houses of Congress approve the Omnibus bill. Approval is likely, as it is the product of the Conference Committee. Then it goes to President Obama for his signature.
The next step will be to work with DOJ to establish procedures and adopt regulations to implement JRJ equitably. In future years a larger appropriation will be sought.
